The Holy Spirit is a person, a divine person of the Trinity who is called alongside us to be our helper, advocate, comforter or counselor forever.What He does1. Testifies about Jesus26 “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. 27 And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.—John 15:26-27 (NIV)2. Convicts us of sin, especially unbelief7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.—John 16:7-11 (ESV)3. Guides us to truth in Christ13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. Unites the Church – binding us together in peace and creating one body in Christ16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you.—John 14:16-17 (ESV)3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called;—Eph 4:3-4The Holy Spirit is the one who convicts us of sin, guides us to truth in Christ, unites the church, and constantly points us back to Jesus for the Christian life today!
