▼ Show Notes
In this episode, John discusses Paul’s letter to the church at Philippi. It isn’t a stretch for most of us to put ourselves in the sandals of the members of the Philippian church. They were anxious. They experienced stress because their founding Pastor, the Apostle Paul was arrested under house arrest in Rome. They knew he could be sentenced to death. They heard stories of his journey under arrest, and they knew he was chained to a Roman guard while awaiting trial.
Paul’s Circumstances
They sent a man to visit Paul, and they had heard that he became ill during his time in Rome. They were fretting, and this anxiety made them vulnerable to false teaching. There was also something unhealthy going on in the church. There were apparently men who taught the truth of the gospel, but they were doing so for their own gain.
Joy in the Lord
The central idea in this letter is joy in the Lord. Paul is awaiting trial and knew that he could be sentenced to death, and yet, he writes a letter to the church at Philippi about joy. The source of real joy is disclosed in this incredible letter. This letter is warm and loving, and it is important for us to understand the principles Paul explains here.
This series will address the difference between fleeting moments of happiness and the depths of real joy. We will look at the true source of joy. We will put on the sandals of the Philippians and experience this beautiful letter from Paul.
