Listen "The Downward Spiral"
Episode Synopsis
Deep Dive into Cornerstone by Jeremy Prayer - The Downward SpiralBased on the sources, the core issue driving sin is the heart, specifically its underlying longings, lusts, and desires. Sin is described as a destructive downward spiral. The progression begins with desire, which makes something tempting. Without desire, there is no temptation. Desires can be good, but they become problematic or inordinate (idols) when we feel we must have something God hasn't given. When desire is given into, it leads to sin (outward actions), and repeated sin creates bad habits. Sin, when fully grown, brings forth death – physical or spiritual decay – leaving one broken and hurt. For believers, while capable of resisting sin, they can still fall into this spiral. The way out is the upward path, which focuses on changing the heart. This involves identifying the root desire, confessing sin (agreeing with God it's wrong), and repenting (turning from sin to God). It requires continually preaching the gospel to oneself, resetting priorities toward God's word, praying for wisdom, and delighting in God's word. Ultimately, it relies on God working in us to transform our will and actions. Changing the heart, the root, is essential for producing true good fruit and addressing various outward sins stemming from the same core issues. God is faithful and provides a way of escape from temptation.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianPatreon: patreon.com/edi_reformed
