Listen "Shepherd Waiting"
Episode Synopsis
Send us your questions and reflections! On Day 17 of our Advent journey, we meet David—not as a king, but as a boy tending sheep. In a quiet moment in Bethlehem, David is anointed by God as the future king of Israel. And then…nothing changes. He returns to the fields, waiting years before the promise is fulfilled. This episode explores what it means to wait well when God’s promises seem far away. David’s story reminds us that waiting is not wasted time. It is often the place where character is formed, faithfulness is tested, and obedience is deepened. God is less concerned with how quickly we arrive and deeply invested in who we become while we wait.David’s role as a shepherd points forward to Jesus, the Good Shepherd. Though anointed by the Spirit and declared God’s Son, Jesus is misunderstood and rejected. Yet His character never changes. He continues to love, lead, and ultimately lay down His life for the sheep.Listeners are invited into a simple practice of “shepherd faithfulness”: identifying what God has already entrusted to them and committing to care for it well today. Waiting well doesn’t mean forcing the promise—it means living faithfully as who God has called us to be, even when the fulfillment is still ahead. As we continue toward Christmas, this episode reminds us that God is always at work—shaping hearts, forming character, and preparing His people—long before the promise comes fully into view.
