The nation of Israel is newly freed from Egyptian slavery by God's gracious and miraculous intervention. One of the first things God does is call a family meting at Mount Sinai. The first and most important thing on God's mind is the priority, supremacy and preeminence of Himself in the lives of His people. This is the biggest temptation that Israel would face then, and that we face today.  But before God gets into these commandments or laws, He begins with His position and passion for His people. Before God tells us what to do, He tells us who He is.
