The right thing becomes the wrong thing when it is done in the wrong time and in the wrong way. It is quite possible for us to read the situation with wisdom and yet pursue a foolish solution. When the future is uncertain, or things seem unclear the best solution is always found by seeking the heart and mind of God. We have the tendency to come up with our own solutions and then try to get God to do our thing for us, instead of ask Him what He thinks and what He wants to do. Israel’s desire for a king was not necessarily a bad desire, but their “when” was off and their “why” was wrong and their “how” was leading them into another form of idolatry. The only right and perfect ruler is King Jesus. His amazing love and leadership compels our service, not our demands.
