David is caught between two worlds. He has done his best to live in enemy territory and go unnoticed, but the world has dragged him in. Now David finds himself where he doesn’t belong, in a position of honor among God’s enemies and preparing to go to war against God’s people. This is one of the lowest and darkest moments in David’s life, and where we might expect God to leave David to his own demise, He steps in to rescue David from himself. As David tried to live with one foot in the world and one foot in the Lord, he found himself with a place in neither world. When we are willing to abandon our way and seek the Lord and His way everything comes together for His plans and purposes.
