The tremendous book of 1 Samuel begins in a place that we tend to avoid…in a place of trials, hardship, pain, and difficulty. The spiritual challenge we face is to see that God is at work using these kinds of situations as supernatural tools to grow and prepare us for His purposes. When the pressure mounts, it is much easier to emotionally explode instead of remain in control of ourselves. By the power of the Holy Spirit we are able to honor God even when things are going in what seems to be “the wrong direction”. God often uses the painful situations we are trying to avoid as tools to draw out deeper dedication from us. You can trust that God is at work even when you can’t see it or understand it.
