Jesus guarantees your future, but what about today? What about today’s sadness and pain?This week we start our study of Jesus’ sermon on the plain in the Gospel of Luke. The sermon on the mount is the parallel sermon found in the Gospel of Matthew. Take five minutes this weekend to read the sermon on the plain. It starts in verse 17 of Luke chapter 6. Read it out loud. Pray through it. Listen to the Spirit. What does he want to teach you over the next weeks as we focus on this teaching from Jesus?Jesus opens the sermon on the plain by contrasting two approaches to life, two kingdoms. It is surprising. Shocking even. Could it be possible that the Kingdom of God could be ours today? Not just in the future, but today. The Kingdom of God, with all of its resources and power, is so much in our possession that it addresses today’s sadness and pain, actually allowing us deep happiness despite our circumstances.
