Listen "Neuroplastic Upgrade: People Do Change"
Episode Synopsis
I used to be adamant that people don’t change. What I should have understood is that I can’t change people. Change doesn’t happen unless I change myself. I chased peace and quiet by muting my inner critic and the world around me with alcohol. My fixed mindset kept me stagnant and emotionally unwell. I just kept repeating unhealthy behaviors because I feared change. The day the pain of staying the same finally outweighed my fear of changing was the spark of willingness that changed my life. Through step work and addiction therapy, I discovered how to accept life exactly as it was, stop living passively, and start dismantling my denial. We can rewire our brains, and with new thoughts we cultivate new behaviors. Small repeatable actions can change the trajectory of our entire lives. I was going to die if I didn’t stop drinking, and now I’m more alive than ever. My brain runs on a different operating system now. Neuroplasticity proves that people do change. I am living proof. There’s hope for anyone convinced addiction has the final say.Listen and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts and YouTube.
