In this episode I'm talking about the documentary The Right To Read that highlights the obvious of how many of our children are not prepared as it pertains to reading across this nation. Kareem Weaver is the one who is like the guide if you will throughout the documentary and he focuses on how Lucy Calkins whole word and balanced literacy approach hasn't been very effective in teaching our children how to read. So the buzz phrase "the science of reading" has been the new/old method that states are adopting which focuses on phonics and phonemic awareness to help teach children how to read.
