Listen "Efficient Dehumanization - Humans and Work"
Episode Synopsis
This episode takes a rambling stroll through the idea that efficiency as a goal dehumanizes. Having worked in an office managing people, and learning about continuous improvement (namely lean), I have begun to question the idea of efficiency, especially as a goal. Jaques Ellul (unless I got it wrong), in relation to technology, said something like "man is seeking an improved means to an unimproved end." Perhaps we have become less than human in our unending search to make more stuff with less effort. Perhaps humans are meant to take more time at what they do and maybe consume less. Perhaps our search for more has begun to change how we perceive humanity, especially in regards to work. Hope the ramble is worth the listen. If you have any feedback let me know, [email protected].
