Episode Synopsis

FOX 13 Mark Wilson (MC) and Dr. Jasmine L. Cohen-Young pictured at St. Pete Yacht Club. Dr. Cohen-Young was a 2006 Graduate of Academy Prep Center for Education in St. Petersburg.   

Dr. Jasmine L. Cohen-Young is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and accomplished scholar whose career reflects excellence in leadership, mentorship, and advocacy. She currently serves as an Adjunct Instructor in the College of Social Work at the University of Kentucky, where she mentors Doctor of Social Work scholars and teaches advanced clinical practice courses.

Dr. Cohen-Young earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Rollins College, where she excelled as a student-athlete and team captain for the women’s basketball team. She went on to complete her Master of Social Work at the University of Central Florida, with a concentration in Military Behavioral Health and Marriage and Family Counseling, where she was honored as the2017 Clinical Student of the Year for her outstanding academic performance and commitment to service. She later earned her Doctor of Social Work from the University of Kentucky, focusing on Clinical Practice in Sport Social Work.

As the Founder and CEO of Mindz Matter, Inc., Dr. Cohen-Young leads a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing mental health literacy and supporting youth and collegiate athletes, particularly in underserved communities. Her leadership has fostered community-based initiatives addressing the social determinants of health, using sports as a catalyst for mental wellness and positive youth development.

Beyond her nonprofit work, Dr. Cohen-Young serves as a Clinical Social Worker for the Department of Defense, providing behavioral health services to active-duty military personnel, and as a Licensed Clinical Supervisor, mentoring clinicians across multiple states as they advance toward licensure.

Her scholarship and professional contributions have been featured in the Sport Social Work Journal and The New Social Worker. Her research and practice expertise center on college athlete mental health, culturally responsive assessments, and the intersection of sport and social work practice. She also serves on the Kansas Social Work Advisory Committee of the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board and is an active member of the Alliance of Social Workers in Sport and the National Association of Social Workers. #academyprep #mindzmatter #tampabay #radio #radiostpete
