Listen "S2 Ep1273: HISTORICALLY ST. PETE - SPMOH's Rui Farias Reveals New Aviation History & Preview of 11/19 Documentary "
Episode Synopsis
In advance of the debut of the new documentary at The Palladium about Albert Whitted Airport history in 10/28-29 (almost sold out) and showing at SPMOH Nov. 19, St. Petersburg Museum of History executive director Rui Farias shares some new aviation history he just discovered: Every year, on the first of January, the Museum of History and the aviation world celebrates more than the start of a new year; it's also the the anniversary of the world's first flight that happened right here in St. Petersburg where the idea of a thing called an airline began. Thanks to Jacksonville businessman Percival Fansler, aeroplane designer and builder, Thomas Benoit, and of course, our favorite aviator brothers, Tony and Roger Jannus. Just 10 years after that historic flight off of Kitty Hawk, the world of airliners and commercial air travel was born in St. Petersburg in 1914. Recently Rui learned the back story about aviator Leonard Bonney.
