Episode Synopsis

In this episode of Pet Tips, host Nanette Wiser spoke with Andria Gibbon, Founder & President of  Protecting Paws for Life, helping local shelters become pet-friendly, keeping people and their animals safe together during a crisis.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month  Did you know that pets are often the silent victims of domestic violence being used as tools of coercion and control? Victims of abuse will make the decision to stay in an abusive relationship for fear of what may happen to their pet if they leave without them.  Protecting Paws for Pets is here to support the survivors of domestic violence by helping more DV shelters become pet-friendly so there are more safe places for them to flee to with their pets. They provide training, support, supplies, vet resources and so much more all year round. They've got a number of events and places around Pinellas County collecting supplies.  How to Help  Pet Friendly Shelters  Follow them on social.
THEIR MISSION Protecting Paws for Life is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, operating in the State of Florida, dedicated to supporting domestic violence shelters in becoming or maintaining fear free pet-friendly environments.  Our mission is to ensure that families in crisis can stay together with their pets; preventing pets from being left behind and facing potential abuse, neglect, or even death, as well as avoiding being turned over to an already overpopulated and overburdened animal shelter system.
Andria Gibbon, Founder & President  Andria has been involved in animal rescue for over 25 years, working within rescues and shelters in NJ, TX and FL.  From fostering to overseeing operations, she has touched every part of rescue which has, in turn, touched every part of her heart and soul.  Alongside her growth in rescue, she maintained a full-time career in the association world, both non-profit and for-profit, and she currently sits as Executive Director of the North American Trailer Dealers Association (NATDA) based in St. Petersburg, FL.  Andria is also a Certified Advanced Canine Trainer and Behavior Specialist  and owner of With a Heart Canine Care, LLC, which is focused on keeping families together that are facing behavior challenges with their dogs.

Her dedication and commitment to the rescue world is what inspired her to create this organization to help keep pets from being left in harm's way.
