The author of six books, including The Last Philosopher in Texas, his work blends magic, philosophy, and the mysteries of the human mind. His upcoming book, under contract, explores the relationship between creative writing and the brain. Prizes include the American Book Award, the Southwest Book Award, the Pen-Oakland Prize, and the Hudson Prize.
He is founder and co-hosts of Words on a Wire, a radio show/podcast celebrating books and creativity.
