Listen "Interpretation vs Prophecy"
Episode Synopsis
Daniel Two | 14-33
It's kind of like this. You walk into the room of a fortune teller. The candles are lit. The crystal ball has magical smoke eerily filling the glass. Incense is burning. And before the fortune teller utters a word, you say, what's my name? Daniel was able to tell the king everything he was not willing to disclose. Even his thoughts.
At this point in the story, Nebuchadnezzar is frustrated. None of his mystics can do what he asks. He's laid a trap that highlights the futility of his idol worship to reveal anything without guessing. By the time Daniel gets any wind of the news, the king has issued a death sentence on all mystics in the kingdom, including Daniel. Daniel does not act out of fear or desperation. He's calm, cool and collected. As we unpack this, we dig into how much history Daniel has in his brain. Will that history suggest the future (it doesn't appear to). We also dig into how much the Babylonians actually understand the Jews and the nature of the one true God. While they may understand them from a historical perspective, Daniel is about to show the King who the one true God really is. This is huge! We end this section will Daniel revealing the dream to the King which sets the stage for the interpretation. Daniel makes it very clear that this revelation is coming from God, not himself.
