You can imagine a cinematic sequence that starts with Moses and the Exodus, then fades to Joshua crossing the Jordon. Joshua encounters the giants in the promised land and they have to deal with them. David and his brothers finish off the Giants but the spiritual remnant remains. We fade into a scene where Jesus enters the same water as Joshua had. He is baptized. Then tested by Satan. Jesus heads back to his home and is driven out, rejected by his own people. We hear the echos of the words of Isaiah as Jesus enters the land of the Canaanite spirits - the darkest region of Israel - Zebulun and Naphtali. Jesus begins his ministry beyond the Jordon in the "Galilee of the Gentiles" - a melting pot of Greek, Roman, Aramaic and Syrian. 
We should all learn to see beyond the lines of scripture and watch the story unfold. This beginning of this story is beautiful.
