Listen "How can God Love us as Spouse?"
Episode Synopsis
Idealizations of human love run deeply within the humanimagination. While contemporaryromantics search longingly for their soulmates, the ancient Greeks spoke ofseeking their other half. If humanbeings were made for intimate love, then it seems that human lovers must be twohalves of one whole. Neither is fulfilledin themselves, but each needs the other for completeness. If we represent this model as an image, wemight think of a circle (the whole) bisected right down the center creating thetwo lovers (the halves) united in love. Butthis image would suggest that any man and any woman are equally compatiblemarital choices to any other, because any two half circles of the same diametercould create a whole. Our experiencewith love, however, tells us otherwise.
