In this episode of JPHMP Direct TALK, Les Beitsch, MD, JD, and Ron Chapman, MD, MPH, chat with PHAB Communications Manager Teddi Nicolaus about how public health accreditation is driving the use of Quality Improvement and Performance Management at health departments. Dr. Beitsch is the Chair of the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine at Florida State University College of Medicine. Dr. Chapman serves as Health Officer for California’s Yolo County. The discussion draws on Dr. Chapman’s commentary, “Public Health Accreditation Impact: The Performance Management System,” and a research report co-authored by Dr. Beitsch titled “Has Voluntary Public Health Accreditation Impacted Health Department Perceptions and Activities in Quality Improvement and Performance Management?” The reports are featured in a special supplement to the May/June 2018 Journal of Public Health Management and Practice, which highlights the value and impact of health department accreditation.
