Recapitulation was the idea that as an embryo developments, it goes through stages where it resembles the fully-formed adult version of other animals. Some believers in recapitulation denied evolution, others accepted it. Some of the ideas from recapitulation can still be found in textbooks today, but the theory is considered entirely false.
