Listen "The First Of Many"
Episode Synopsis
Martin Brodeur will certainly be recovering from a 5 goal hangover tomorrow as the Flyers got thier first win of the 2005-06 season with a 5-2 victory over the Devils. Simon Gagne scored 2 goals and Peter Forsberg had 2 assists to help the cause. Michal Handzus, Turner Stevenson and Jon Sim also had goals for the Flyers.Even with Dennis Seidenberg and Derian Hatcher out, the defense looked much better in tonights win than they did in the opener on Wednesday against the Rangers. Special teams may be the struggle as the Devils scored both of thier goals on the power play and the Flyers went 0 for 5 with the advantage. Because of the rule changes, there will be more chances with a man advantage, the Flyers need to step up on special teams and score more on the power play and allow less while shorthanded.Antero Nittymaki started the game in place of Robert Esche and there is no goaltender controversy in Philly. Due to the way the schedule is set up this year, Hitchcock said he wanted to get Nittymaki a few starts right from the beginning of the season. Nittymaki is now 4-0 in NHL play continuing his unbeaten streak from the 2003-04 season. Nittymaki was quick, he is moving out of the net much better and seems to be ahead of plays coming his way. This was also much more of a physical game for the Flyers as Primeau and Brashear were obviously trying to send a message that this is a physical team. We'll recap the Rangers and Devils games this week on the Flyers Weekly podcast.Email: [email protected]: http://flyersweekly.blogspot.com2005 Beyond Media East Broadcating
