Town Councillor Anne Stephenson chairs the Hampshire & Isle of Wight branch of the Huntington's Disease Association; she lost her husband to the disease some years ago. Their recent AGM featured an IVF-type process that prevents the defective gene that causes the disease being passed on to children, which was a very uplifting story. but the big news was of a dramatic medical breakthrough which made the national and international news. AMT 130 - delivered in one dose during brain surgery reduces the progression of the disease by 75% and they hope it will be approved by the end of 2026 in the US. There are also hopes the process could have other applications with diseases like Alzheimers'. Anne speaks to Mike Waddington about Huntington's Disease, the prospects for a cure and the importance of all people affected coming together.
