Employers often say that they want "good problem solvers" or people with "problem-solving skills" but when we ask them what they mean by that the answers vary wildly. And when we ask employees how they feel they are at problem-solving, they always say that they are good at it. When we ask them if they are given opportunities to problem solve they say, "rarely"! This is a problem-solving problem. Employers want it and employees have it, but the chances to use it are few and far between.
