Matthew 25 - Parable of Ten Virgins25 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.- The parable of the ten virgins- Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virginso So the story you are about to read is about heaven§ This story is to illuminate something specific- Who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom o Notice the subject is “meeting the bridegroom” a type of Jesus- Five of them were foolish and five were prudento Two types of people went to meet Him§ One group that was foolish§ One group that were prudent 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. 5 Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep.- Here is the explanationo The foolish took their lamps, but did not take oil with them§ They have light but no provision to keep it burningo The prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps§ The light represents knowing the truth§ The oil represents the Holy Spirit that keeps the fire burning- Now while the bridegroom was delayingo Notice He was delaying (waiting on purpose)- All got drowsy and began to sleepo We get tired of waiting o Sometimes we fall asleep 6 But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. - Notice it was midnight (the end of the day)o There was a shouto Behold the bridgegroomo Come out to meet him- Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lampso So they could see and be seen8 The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. 11 Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.- Notice the foolish are talking to the prudent and asking for oil when their lamps were going out (The light is flickering maybe wavering)- the prudent answer, no there will not be enough for us and you; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselfo the point is that they should have already gone to the dealers and bought some for themselves and been prepared to meet the bridegroomIntro to Outbless Weekly Thanks for listening to Outbless.com
