In ancient times, one’s name was a prophetic declaration of their character or destiny. When God revealed himself to Abraham it was as El-Shaddai, a description of Him as the Almighty God. He wanted Abraham to know He had the power to fulfill His promises to multiply Abraham exceedingly.
