In this episode we look at the four different types of the purification offering in Leviticus 4 for different classifications of people. There's a purification offering for 1) The High Priest, 2) The Whole Assembly of Israel, 3) A Leader, and 4) a Common Person. We talk about why there are different purification offerings for the different categories of people, and what the different kinds of animals used for those different categories symbolizes. We also discuss the significance of the fat, kidneys, and liver being removed and burned up on the altar to God, and why this was a "sweet smelling aroma to the Lord."
Relating this to Jesus led us to the book of Hebrews where it points out the cleansing/purifying of the Tabernacle from the blood of the purification offering (bulls and goats) meant that the person themselves were not purified. This means the sacrificial system could not effectively address the entire problem created by a person's sin. While the purification offering did not cleanse the person, the blood of Jesus does cleanse the person. The sacrifice of Jesus goes beyond the purification offering and does way more than the blood of a bull or goat could ever do.
