The Impact of Anti-Scientific Views among American Evangelicals │ On the Way: Episode 25
Dr. Janet Kellogg Ray sits down with Dr. Botner to discuss her new book, The God of Monkey Science: People of Faith in a Modern Scientific World. This is an enthralling conversation about the origins of anti-scientific views among American evangelicals, and how these views were weaponized in the cultural wars in the 1970s and 1980s. Along the way, Dr. Ray clarifies what the discipline of science entails, and why certain "Christian" approaches to human origins are not, in fact, science. She also speaks practically to fellow evangelicals about how to have charitable, well-informed conversations about science with people who have been conditioned to view scientific "theories" with suspicion.
Janet Kellogg Ray is an enthusiastic science educator, explainer, and communicator. She holds a PhD in curriculum and instruction, with eighteen years of university teaching, both biology majors and nonmajors. Raised a creationist, Janet is a science educator and a practicing Christian who accepts evolution. She is uniquely equipped to explain evolution to questioners, doubters, deniers, and those who just want to know more about the science of origins: she’s been there, and she understands.
