Episode Synopsis

This week’s content: August 25th, 2025    New NEVI Guidance from Department of Transportation  The U.S. DOT has released updated “interim final guidance” for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. Originally established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, NEVI provides critical funding to build out a reliable, nationwide EV charging network.   The new guidance is designed to unlock program dollars faster, giving states greater flexibility to move forward with projects and accelerate charger deployment. This means more progress toward filling gaps in the charging network, ensuring drivers have access to convenient, reliable charging along key corridors.   The Federal Highway Administration is seeking feedback on these updates as it works to further strengthen the program. In the meantime, states now have a clearer path to put federal investments to work, delivering the charging infrastructure needed to support growing the EV market.    ABC Companies Set to Open Denver Facility Soon       ABC Companies is proud to welcome fleet operators, industry partners, elected officials, local media, and community members to a special grand opening celebration at its newest full-service facility in Aurora, Colorado. Scheduled for Thursday, September 18, the event will highlight ABC’s fleet support capabilities through interactive tours, vehicle demonstrations and opportunities to connect with transportation leaders. Located just 20 minutes from Denver International Airport, the new facility further expands ABC’s national service network. The Aurora hub is equipped to provide both in-shop and mobile fleet services for motorcoaches, shuttles, vans, and low-floor transit buses powered by diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG), and electric systems.   More than just a ribbon cutting, the celebration allows attendees to go behind the scenes of ABC’s newest operations hub, meet the team driving fleet innovation, and explore how services such as retrofits, mobile maintenance, and CNG platform support are modernizing fleets across the region. Guests can expect guided tours of the 30,000+ square-foot facility, live vehicle demonstrations, networking, food and drink, and the Mile High Maintenance Challenge for technicians to compete for prizes and bragging rights.   Learn more and RSVP to attend here!       Public-Private Partnerships Help Transit Fleets Electrify   Transit agencies are feeling the pressure to electrify their fleets, both from political mandates and public expectations. However, financial assistance from grant programs can be hard to secure and rarely covers the cost of what’s needed. Public-private partnerships and service-based models can help bridge the gap for transit fleets open to collaboration with industry partners eager to accelerate the transition. In this article for Metro Magazine, Matt Curwood, VP Business Development at Zenobē North America, details the path to successful electrification with proper planning, partners, and financing models.     Rivian Georgia Plant, Back on Track   A few weeks ago, Rivian announced a new East Coast headquarters in Atlanta opening later this year. Building on that momentum, Rivian signaled construction of its new plant in the state will resume next year. The manufacturer paused the project earlier this year to conserve funds and moved the production of the R2 SUV to its plant in Illinois to expedite sales. Rivian won final approval for a $6.6 billion Department of Energy loan in January and will be able to access the funds once construction resumes. They’re holding two events next month to honor the project’s restart: a community event on September 14, and a formal kickoff ceremony on September 16, attended by stakeholders and government officials including Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.     E-Bikes for Firefighters and Park Rangers   Electric bikes are useful for a wide range of applications, from commuting and running errands, to emergency call response for firefighters and park rangers. Firefighters in Scottsdale, Arizona are using e-bikes to respond to lost hiker calls, potentially saving lives in an area where heat stroke can be near instantaneous. The Recon Stryker bikes are heavy-duty, with two motors for all-wheel drive, and designed specifically for police and security use. They can be mounted on the rear of ambulances, meaning they can be delivered to a trailhead for first responders to hit the trail with a backpack of medical supplies. The Scottsdale Fire Department attributes three lives already saved by the new e-bikes and has another six e-bikes on the way.     On the other side of the country, Florida has also welcomed e-bikes into local operations. The Florida State Parks Foundation recently announced the deployment of electric bikes across the state’s park system. The Velotric Nomad bikes are equipped with 750-watt motors and a 65-mile range, along with 4” wide fat tires optimized for rough paths or off-road trails. The statewide fleet of 50 e-bikes was funded via sales from the “Explore Our State Parks” specialty license plate, aiding the Foundation’s efforts to make Flordia’s parks cleaner and more efficient.       Zero-Emission Vehicle Funding Opportunities    CALIFORNIA HVIP: The Clean Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) is a California incentive program that makes medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles more affordable and accessible for California fleets through point-of-sale discounts. The program operates on a first-come, first-served funding basis and will reopen on September 9, 2025, at 9:00 AM PST. Check current funding availability at californiahvip.org/funding or sign up to stay informed when HVIP opens.  NEW JERSEY ZIP: New Jersey's $165M Zero-Emission Incentive Program offers base vouchers ranging from $15,000-$175,000 for medium and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles. Phase 3 vendor applications are currently open, and vendors must submit applications by September 2, 2025, at 5:00 PM EST to guarantee website listing before purchaser applications launch in early- to mid-September. Apply at NJ ZIP - NJEDA.        Upcoming Events:  ZM Trucks Plant Opening  Join ZM Trucks to celebrate the opening of their U.S. manufacturing plant in Fontana on Thursday, August 28th, from 12 pm to 2 pm!
