Battery electric vehicles are commonly viewed as the practical solution to decarbonize transportation. But despite the funding announcements and hype, it’s not as simple as heading to the dealer to swap out your old diesel. There are operational differences, supply chain delays, and charging infrastructure upgrades to consider. And that’s before looking at the price tag and understanding total cost of ownership. These challenges are all being addressed by The Electrification Coalition (EC), a nonprofit dedicated to facilitating widespread adoption of electric vehicles. Today’s episode features Alma Meckler-Pacheco, a freight electrification associate at the EC, explaining the various workstreams underway to accelerate battery electric truck adoption. These efforts include policy development, advocacy campaigns, shipper and carrier education, and building support among coalition members.
