Listen "Revelation and Devotional Method | Bible Study Methods Session II"
Episode Synopsis
Lesson Objectives – At the end of this lesson, students will:
Be able to discuss the biblical elements of God’s “revelation”
Learn about the Devotional Method of Bible study
Learn about the seven dispensations.
Understand God’s Progressive Revelation
We live in a day in time when people say all types of things. We say God has revealed something to us. We must split hairs and come up with the right terminology.
We must never say the Bible teaches theological or historical error! But we need to recognize that not everything reported in the Bible may be in the exact correspondence with historical and scientific fact as we know it today.
What is the difference of Inspiration, Revelation, and Illumination?
I believe this point is very important for disciples to understand when studying the word of God. Many teachings of Jesus you will see that he is alluding or referencing OT scriptures.
In scriptures, God is revealing information to mankind about:
Himself- you cannot know God unless He reveals it. He inspired man to write about Him
His plan of salvation- we wouldn’t know that we need saving unless God had revealed it.
Everything about God is told, it is just a matter of the Holy Spirit illuminating and revealing it to us. From the Old testament, it was a progressive inclined movement of God revealing Himself to His people. When Jesus Christ came on the scene, the revelation began to plateau. Everything after revelation has been told.
“In many separate revelations [each of which set forth a portion of the Truth] and in different ways God spoke of old to [our] forefathers in and by the prophets, [But] in the last of these days He has spoken to us in [the person of a] Son, Whom He appointed Heir and lawful Owner of all things, also by and through Whom He created the worlds and the reaches of space and the ages of time [He made, produced, built, operated, and arranged them in order].” Hebrews 1:1-2
