Listen "Who is God?"
Episode Synopsis
In this episode of Mind and Mystery, we take on one of the most fundamental questions anyone can ask: Who is God?Before we can talk meaningfully about revelation, worship, or the life of faith, we need to establish a clear understanding of God on the firm ground of metaphysics. Theology begins where philosophy leaves off — and so, together, we’ll explore what reason can tell us about God: that He is not simply the biggest being in the universe, but Being itself, the necessary ground of all reality, the One in whom essence and existence are identical. We’ll unpack key metaphysical principles — such as act and potency, contingency and necessity, the analogy of being — and see how they lead us to recognize the sheer actuality and simplicity of the divine.By the end of this episode, you’ll have a foundational knowledge of what we mean by “God” in Catholic theology, not as a vague idea, but as the metaphysical source and sustainer of everything that is.
