You can get people to vote for you if you have something to give them. Unfortunately, the only thing a politician has is things that belong to other people. The politician must be willing and able to promise a sizeable number of voters they will receive a large chunk of resources from the nation. If a politician is only willing to allow us to keep what we earn, we have no need for them. And so every politician is and always be a supporter of democracy and will never, ever, promote a true meritocracy.
