The 2024 Maui Invitational is back at the Lahaina Civic Center and the North Carolina Tar Heels are back in the event, seeking their fifth Maui Invitational Championship. To get there they'll have to navigate through a daunting field that includes 4 of the nation's top-12 teams - Auburn, Iowa St, UConn, and, of course, North Carolina. But that doesn't even include the Heels' first opponent Dayton, who was more than ready to go blow-for-blow with the Heels. After a sluggish first half (which is putting it kindly) that saw themselves down 18 at the off, North Carolina came out ready to play in the second half. RJ Davis led the Heels with 30, followed by Seth Trimble's first career double-double, which included setting another new career high in points (27 points, 10 rebounds). Jalen Washington came alive after halftime, and Drake Powell asserted himself as well, including making two threes.
