Having been in the WordPress space since 2012, Jan has a lot of experience working as a developer, entrepreneur, and educator. He’s recently been running virtual summits and is seeing increasing success, and he shares some great insider tips for running a successful event.
In 2015, Jan learned how he could use a virtual summit to take his freelance website development business to the next level. At the time, he was building sites for clients and had the typical feast and famine cycle. He found that running a virtual summit would be a good way to pivot his business and expand.
The technology to run a virtual summit is at your fingertips. Jan uses Zoom to host meetings and webinars, along with recording them. Then he uses Vimeo to host the videos to add to members' areas after the summit is over.
Jan’s first summit was called Ecom Services Summit. He considers that one a failure, as it had only 700 registrations when his goal was 3,000 registrations. The reason it failed was Jan’s messaging and targeting wasn’t on point. Many course creators struggle with that exact same thing. Clearly communicating the value of your event is super important for messaging to your audience.
Jan shares some methods for making sure you have a great attendee experience, but are also able to monetize your summit through sponsorship packages and possibly having summit recordings in a course format after the summit is over.
