Listen "Staying On Task"
Episode Synopsis
Imagine that you are training to be a woodworker. You are in a large shop with about 15 other students, but each of you is assigned to a master woodworker to be personally tutored by him.
Presently you are side-by-side at the lathe with him. He’s working on half of the piece and you are beside him on the other half. He’s teaching you by having you duplicate whatever you see him doing on his end of the work piece.
But there you are thinking about the skills and projects that other students in the shop are working on. You’re constantly glancing around the shop over your shoulder and even barking out orders as to how you think they should be doing it.
Notice how detrimental your distraction is to what you’re supposed to be doing and learning and to the end product.
In Psalms 25:15 (NIV) David writes: — “My eyes are always on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare.” In other words, each of us has enough trouble to contend with that only Jesus can help us overcome and we each have things to learn that only Jesus can teach us. Consequently, it is paramount that we keep our eyes on him, that is, resist distraction and look to him alone to help and guide us.
