Listen "Seek Him"
Episode Synopsis
“Seek the Lord and the strength he gives. Seek his presence continually.” Psalm 105:4
What is it to “seek the Lord”? Look at it this way: if you want to be someone’s friend, you have to find common ground upon which to build the friendship. By that I mean, you have to have shared interests. And the more interests you have in common with each other the deeper the friendship you stand to have.
So to “seek the Lord” suggests to me a call to pay careful attention to what you know pleases him and also pleases you. In other words, do a lot of thinking and praying about such things.
Here’s one example: in Romans 15:5 we read that God is the source of encouragement. He takes great pleasure in encouraging people. Well, don’t you? Don’t you like to see anyone who spends time with you encouraged? Sure you do. So God and you have that interest in common. Therefore, for you to “seek the Lord” would be to do a lot of thinking with God about when and how to go about encouraging people.
What’s another interest you have in common with God? Set it before you and then “seek the Lord.” Ask him, What does it mean for us to do this together? You keep that up regarding your shared interests and your friendship with God will grow deeper and deeper.
