In Exodus 20:5 we read, “You shall not bow down to them [other gods] or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God."
Did you know that God is jealous over you? You may wonder why? What’s behind it?
Well, to start with, He loves you so much He wants to see you overflowing with incommensurable peace and joy. However, He alone is that peace and joy to us, for He created us for Himself. Consequently, He alone can be all we could ever desire and He yearns to be that to each of us. So, if we look elsewhere for it, if we look to something or someone other than Him, His jealousy is ignited because He knows that whatever it is will never bring us into what he alone can be to us. We have reason to rejoice that our God is like that. He is that intensely dedicated to our complete wellbeing.
