Listen "“Born and Given”"
Episode Synopsis
Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
I’m convinced that most important thing about you is what you think God thinks about you. The more you know he treasures you and cares for you, the more you’ll trust him and share more of yourself with him and the more interested you’ll be to help others come to know what you know.
For that matter, to the extent that our thoughts don’t revolve around an interest in having others know what we know about how loved they are by God, to that extent we’re still struggling against some degree of bondage in our life. It’s a bondage rooted in us not knowing how much we matter to him so we’re still preoccupied — slaving away at trying to meet our needs or solve our problems.
Whereas every good thing that we could ever need or want came to us wrapped up in those strips of cloth — that baby in the feed box. And he came down to us with God’s intention within him to meet our every need — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, along with all needed guidance, wisdom, and power. In other words, in the gift of Jesus our every need was anticipated and provided for, and every problem we have or could have was resolved.
We are free — free to live our lives devoted to helping others know what we know about how much God loves them.
