Editorial Reviews:
H. G. Wells' gruesome tale of gene splicing and medical experimentation had an immediate effect on its 19th-century audience, bringing attention to the cruelty of vivisection and further developing the publics emergent interest in animal rights. Performer Jonathan Kents clear, composed baritone provides a lucid delivery of this unabridged classic. Kents relaxed manner is punctured by the mounting shock and unease of scientist Edward Prendick, the storys shipwrecked protagonist, as he unearths the ghastly nature of Dr. Moreaus experiments. Likewise, each of Moreaus craven "beastfolk" is imbued with a unique voice, indicative of their animal inner natures, and belying their traumatic experiences at the hands of the exiled scientist.
