I had the pleasure of talking to Omar Monroy, A Trans, Indigenous Mexican jewelry designer and artist. Omar’s, Jewelry line El Techichi, features statement pieces Hand crafted out of vintage metals and Gemstones. What drew me to their Jewelry was that Omar’s creations seem to tell us a story about Her indigeneity. The pueblo her family is from, the food their Abuelita makes, and the animalitos who inspire her. We discuss her upbringing as an undocumented immigrant living in the Inland Empire, being a fat femme, and the struggle to find their identity and voice.
