Music is a fundamental channel of communication: it provides a means by which people can share emotions and express what we don’t find the words for. But what other ways are there for music to convey meaning, beyond the realm of emotions?
Even though encoding meta information in music has been an artistic practise dating back to Baroque, similar approaches until now remained mainly in the Avantgarde scene. However through the development of technology, the usage of data as an artistic tool started to gain popularity. We invited Christian Losert a composer, creative coder and former member of kling klang klong to give us an insight into his own sound practise so that we gain better understanding of what the emerging field of data-driven music is about.
