Listen "E59: Make a Working Staycation Your Most Productive Day Ever"
Episode Synopsis
Send us a textLooking for something to break up your work routine? It might help to get out of the house for a day and take a working staycation. I did this recently and it was my most productive day ever. In Episode 59, you’ll learn four things that made the day so successful, and I’ll share what I Iearned about myself and my work style during the day.I work best when I have a little distraction going on around me. The quiet stillness bores me and I end up wandering around the house to distract myself. Usually with a snack. So when someone gave me the idea of a one-day working staycation, I thought I'd give it a try, just for something different. The idea is that you go someplace nearby ... a coffee shop, restaurant, anything with a good wi-fi connection .... work for a while, then go to another place, giving yourself some variety throughout the day. I loved it!So I want to share with you four tips for turning a working staycation into one of your most productive days ever:1. Pick your spots carefully.2. Travel light.3. Plan your time.4. Mind your power. Here’s what I learned on my working staycation:I am 10 times more productive when I have a little activity going on around me.McDonald's was my least favorite.By traveling light and staying close, the time between stopping and starting was only 30 -40 minutes.I consumed at LOT less calories than when I work at home.My working day around town reminded me of this Bible verse:Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives. Titus 3:14 (NIV)I love how this verse tells me that being productive is something we must (and can) learn.ACTION STEPPlan your own working staycation. Snap some pictures around town as you work and post them on social media. Use the hashtag #justonesimplething and tag me @doanewthing so I can see all the work you are getting done! I can’t wait to see if this idea works out as well for you as it did for me.RESOURCEHave you checked out the FAITH Journal?
