There is something about seeing performative violence on stage that has captivated audiences since the very first plays some 2,500 years ago. But the dramatic actions taken either on stage or on screen obviously can't be real, right? I mean... obviously most plays don't end in a real murder, but what about the rest? Just how much of what we watch is pretend? Also I do apologize for the delay of the episode. I've been gravely ill as you can no doubt hear and without power, which has been a blast. My guests today are Brittany Holdahl Donahue and J. Oliver Donahue. This husband and wife combo are the founders of Argent Combat, a training center for some of the coolest of yet most misunderstood of skills: Stage Combat. The three of us are pretty open during the interview about what nerds we are, but how awesome is it that you can go to a place and learn sword fighting, knife play, and unarmed combat training without actually hurting your partner. And that's a theme you'll notice throughout the episode; this practice can give you so much more than a showy new trick. It can help you in a swath of other ways, like communication with those close to you, a better understanding of yourself, and so much more.
