I first started as a Press Manager for the National Premiere
of that International Short-film he filmed in L. A. Laura gave me an Excel spreadsheet with TV, Radio and Written Press list for me to start growing my contacts list. She also gave me a little spill, what to say when I called the journalists and producers to tell them about the short-film. I had to get
interviews in Radio and TV shows and articles on magazines and newspapers, to promote the upcoming premiere. Just like that, without even noticing, I started networking a lot and growing my contacts list…getting to meet the most
prestigious people and the most sought-after journalist of the time.
As I went on preparing for the Premiere and After-Party
for the following month, Laura was selling the services of the new Production Company so we could start producing our own TV Commercials. During the After-Party, Marcos was enthusiastically telling everyone about me. He said that what caught his attention was that out of the blue, without needing anyone to introduce him to me, I had the courage to reach out to him and send him my resumé. He was stunned.
Our first TVc was a campaign for the President of the Country. That was a small ad, so with Laura’s guidance, I produced the whole Campaign. The following ad was a huge one. A world-wide brand was coming to the market in
the Country. I had an assigned department: Casting, my favorite area. It was a massive Co-Production with Paraguay and Uruguay, 100 Extras and 30 Lead Roles. We hired a lot of Freelancers to join our team for the duration of the Campaign. We hired a Casting Director with a lot of years of experience, and I was her Casting Assistant. We were in charge of the 30 Leads, and another producer was in charge of the 100 Extras. We had freelancers hired for each department: Catering, Location, Costume Design, etc.
Laura asked me to recommend a friend to cover as a
Production Assistant to help out with the catering of all the extras during the two long shoot days. I brought Verónica along as an Assistant, she is the sister of my acting classmate, Margarita. The shoot went on for two 18-hour days, exhaustively exhilarating. Omg, each day I fell more passionate about the Film World.
Three months later, the internship was up…they were very
happy with my work so they hired me. Officially, I had my first job ever! And it was in the Film Industry. With the passing of the weeks we got busier and busier. I learnt so much each day and started getting more and more responsibilities, contacts and different departments assigned to myself.
Then I went on to become the Casting Director. I loved directing the castings and networking with actors and
models all the time. I even had my own assistant for the audition days. Sometimes, we didn’t need a big team so I was the head of a few departments. It wasn’t quite the 9-5 job though, sometimes I would finish at midnight or would
start at 5 A.M. depending on the shooting schedule and Pre-Production needed. More often than not, we filmed on Public Holidays or Weekends. I was so happy doing it and didn’t care.
Those were times of hard work and so much learning. See when you work so hard doing something you love? That exhaustion feels amazing. I met a lot of people in all the different productions we did, one of the most valuable contacts on a personal level was Edgar. What an awesome guy! I love him, we got along and we became very close
friends. He has the most amazing voice. The type of voice I would love my life to be narrated by -If it were a film-.
He started doing a lot of voiceover work for our clients and I was in charge of the logistics: To call him a hundred times to book all these studio sessions, to guide him according
to our client’s needs during the recording, and to be there for him at the studio. It turned out that Edgar loved films like me and he was opening his own Production Company to direct the TVCs and short films himself.
