Listen "As You Go: Reimagining Discipleship Beyond Evangelism"
Episode Synopsis
The Great Commission commands us to make disciples, not just converts, and our understanding of this distinction changes everything about how we approach Christian life and ministry.• "Make disciples" is the command in the Great Commission, not "go" as is commonly misunderstood• Discipleship and mentorship have similarities but aren't the same thing• Many Christians mistake evangelism for complete discipleship• True discipleship includes relationship, not just conversion• Fear of inadequacy is the main reason people don't disciple others• Seminary education isn't required to disciple someone else• Jesus gave the Great Commission to ordinary fishermen, not theological experts• Prayer is the first step in beginning a discipleship relationship• Ask God to show you who He has intentionally placed in your life• Discipleship can happen in groups, not just one-on-one relationships• Both the discipler and disciple need humility in the relationship• Many young believers hesitate to ask for discipleship for fear of being a burden• Older believers are often willing to disciple but haven't been asked• The church can help facilitate discipleship connections
