While we don’t want to be open books that are continuously monitored, listened to, tracked, and surveilled, we do want to be sure that the huge quantity of data generated by our digital activities can be put to use making us happier, healthier, and safer. Fortunately for us, mathematicians, cryptographers, policy-makers, and bioethicists are on the case.
