My journey began with an unforgettable encounter with Mountain Mama, where I first started connecting the dots between past trauma and present behaviors. Inspired by insights from experts like Nadine Burke Harris and Gabor Maté, I began to understand the science of stress and healing. Channeling the stoicism of Roman history’s Aurelian, I faced the challenges of the trail with determination, from the relentless pain of blisters to confronting the emotional scars I’d carried for years.

Through this podcast, I’ll share the struggles and the lessons, how I coped with injuries, the heartbreak of seeing trail families move on without me, and the eventual discovery of solutions for my psychological, emotional and physical pain. You’ll also hear about the kindness of fellow hikers such as Kathy and John, as well as those wonderful and insightful trail angels, whose support helped me keep going when I thought I couldn’t. Along the way, I’ll open up about deeper reflections on loss, forgiveness, grief, healing and the impact of various trauma's throughout my life.
