John now sits in prison after spending his entire ministry preparing the way for Jesus the Messiah, the one who would “proclaim liberty for the captives.” John will soon die at the hands of King Herod even though his life was devoted to ushering in the reign of the King of Kings. What can we learn from Jesus’ words to an imprisoned and questioning John? How do we respond when our lives take tragic plot twists?
