Listen "The Most Holy Place"
Episode Synopsis
In this episode we journey into the final apartment of the Tabernacle: the Most Holy Place.Exodus 25:8-22The whole sanctuary is designed to provide a place for God to dwell on earth with his people. This is where the Shakinah Glory, or God’s very presence was. This is where God dwelled with his people, where he interacted with the human race.Exodus 26;34The High Priest went beyond the veil once a year. This area was covered in incense like the veiled presence of God. Before the priest would sit the Ark of the Covenant. It also had a crown on it like the altar of incense. This is a picture of the Gospel - coming out of darkness (the Holy Place with only the light of the candlestick) into the light of God (through the sacrifice and baptism) through the veil which is now just a mist and smoke. The Ark has the Mercy Seat which is flanked by two cherubim, looking down. They are interested in the plan of salvation which is insider the Ark. In fact, Lucifer was a Cheribum for God before he fell and was cast out of heaven.Ezekiel 28:14-17The Box itself was three concentric boxes: an outer Golden box, then a box inside then the interior box. This represents the triune nature of God. The acacia wood is the human element of Christ overlaid with the Gold.Exodus 37:6-9The Mercy Seat in Latin is the word Propitiation. (Romans 3) This is Christ. Christ is our Mercy Seat. He is the reason why God gives us mercy. God is willing to extend mercy because of Grace. Grace is unmerited favor. Through God’s willingness to forgive the human race, we can see a sign of humanity in God. (Ezekiel 10)Inside the Ark are the 10 commandments. The mercy seat is over the law representing Mercy and Grace.Deuteronomy 31:24-26The Books of Moses are behind the Ark along with Aaron’s Rod and a pot of Manna which sustained the Hebrews in the wildnerness for 40 years. This represents God’s continued protection and support of his people.Psalm 119:172Psalm 97:2Moses’ books are what was nailed to the cross. These are the 600+ laws of the Talmud - the doctrines of men.Colossians 2:14Romans 3, 5, 6, 7But the 10 commandments still stand - these are the law of God and they stand as a witness against us. They tell us right from wrong. Romans 2:12Romans 3:19-20The sanctuary on earth is a copy of the true in HeavenHebrews 9:11-12/23-25In the heavenly sanctuary is where Christ mediates for us with his blood as the ultimate sacrifice.Hebrews 10:1, 9-10Because we are all sinners we need to repent, get our sins on the veil and have Christ intercede before God in heaven for us. Once a year on the Day of Atonenment is when the sins for the year are forgiven. This is the end of the Hebrew year.Psalm 85:10John 14:15-21Romans 7:7-14Next episode we will look at the feast days and how they relate to the sanctuary. We will begin to look at prophecy where type meets anti-type and how these services are playing out over history as we eagerly await the return of Jesus Christ.
